It is week 7 for Clarke Football as they are set take on Central Lee on October 7th. It was a tough start to the season, but now the Indians are back on track as they are 3-3 overall with a three game win streak. The Indians are sitting on a 3-1 conference record.
For the first few weeks of the season were a rough start for the Clarke Indians. By the fourth game is when the Indians took charge and won their first game at home against Chariton 14-8. With that win Clarke was now 1-1 in their conference standings. It was also the beginning of their now 3 game win streak.
Following the victory against Chariton it was back on the road for the Indians as they would go to Bloomfield, Iowa to face on the Davis County Mustangs. Throughout the game it was close, but the Clarke would prevail on a 28-21 victory against the Mustangs on their Senior Night. With this win Clarke sat on a 2-1 conference record. After this game they had an important game coming.
On September 30th the Indians come back to Osceola as they would have to face the visiting team Albia, the Blue Demons. This was a game that every player wanted to receive the win for. It was another close game as it would go in to overtime. The Clarke Indians would triumph once again as they would defeat the Demon 30-22 in a close overtime win. With only three games left of the regular season there is still time for improvement.
According to Varsity Quarterback, Andy Hurtado is happy with this year’s season, but still knows that the team can get better. He feels that he as an individual has improved from last year, especially on his ability to throw the ball. As for the team Hurtado felt that they have improved very much as well. If Hurtado could pick a player that has progressed the most it would be Sophomore Wide Receiver, Riley Domina where as he feels Domina improved on running his routes.
Juan Perez, Varsity Offensive Guard, was also pleased with how the season is going, but knows the team can always get better. Perez also believes he and the rest of the team have made major improvements from the prior season. Perez feels that he made advancements to his blocking and footwork on the line. As for the team, he vouches every player has gotten better, but feels they can try harder to execute each play and also that the players and coaches must have better communication to get on the same page. Perez believes the Outside Linebacker Amani Fry has improved the most since he tries harder, runs his plays better, is more attentive, and has become more confident in tougher situations.
Tonight on October 7th the Clarke Indians go to Donnellson, Iowa to face the Central Lee Hawks. Both Central Lee and Clarke are 3-1 in conference standings. This should be an exciting game and a win the Indians are striving to bring home. Go Indians!
