Prom-The Money Guzzler

Prom may seem like the highlight of high school, however as Sydnee Redman says, “The time and money put in does not out way the four hours of “fun”. The average high school student will spend around $600 on prom essentials. Items girls usually spend their money on preparing for prom are hair, makeup, nails, tanning, accessories, shoes, corsages, boutonnieres, and of course the dress. This number could drastically go up or down depending on things such as; the price of the dress (generally range from $100-$600) or if one decides to rent a ride to prom such as a limo or a party bus.

When we asked freshman, Cady Crawford when you factor in tanning, nail hair and makeup appointments, in as well as your dress, accessories and shoes, about how much will you spend on prom this year and do you think that prom is worth spending all that money on, to which she replied “This year I am going to spend about $530 on prom, I do not really think that it’s justifiable spending over $500 on a dance.” When senior, Isabella Hoffman was asked the same question, she responded with “I feel like prom is worth the money considering it only occurs once or twice in most people’s high school career. For most girls the only other time they will get this dressed up will be their weddings, other than that things like this don’t happen again.” There are many ways to reduce the overall price with a little thought and effort. It is possible to start by buying a used dress or reusing shoes. By doing these things, it is possible to look good while saving money and shopping smart.
