Veteran's Day Recap

Veterans Day is a day to honor all the soldiers who fought, or are fighting for our country. Friday, November 11th we took a couple hours and gathered in the gymnasium to honor our soldiers of the United States of America. As we gathered we saw a variety of people come to support our soldiers. When the assembly had started two gentlemen put two flags in there post and then we all stood and said the “Pledge of Allegiance” while facing the flags with our hand over our heart. We listened to music while a slideshow was shown above on the overhead. The choir sang songs for the assembly and towards the end of the ceremony LeAnn Helgevold sang “Arlington” by Trace Adkins in honor of her father who is a veteran. As the assembly started to close Mr. Shane Stephens started taking role of local veterans, many of whom attended the assembly.

When asked what Veteran's Day meant to her Mary Murphy stated: “It means taking a moment to recognize the 1% of our population who commit a portion of their lives to the military services… and sometimes their very lives. This is a sacrifice that sometimes means going to places you may not want to go, being separated from those you care about, and not always having a personal choice- but doing so because you believe those sacrifices are worth it. I am not a veteran, but being married to one gave me a very good view of what it looks like for veterans and their families to do what they do so we can continue to have the freedoms we have listed in our Constitution.”
