Chromebooks vs. Ipads
This year every student was issued a chromebook. One of the benefits of having a
chromebook would be the keyboard rather than the touch screen. Many other benefits listed out were that the chromebooks are used more for education unlike the Ipads that could have games and apps downloaded to them for entertainment. When I asked the principal, Mr. Stephens what he thought about which is more cost effective comparing the two he said: “Chromebooks are cheaper, it's also easier to replace and less expensive to maintain.” As much as the chromebooks sound good the Ipad also had its positives some being that students would bring them charged since games would drain the battery unlike the chromebooks that have a good life
span but once it dies students don't charge them because they don't carry chargers.
Another positive about the Ipad is they were easier to carry around when getting from class to class according to students.
Senior, Melina Domingo what she thought about the transition from Ipads to
chromebooks she said: ” I prefer the Ipad as it did have less restriction compared to the chromebook and it was also easier access for the apps.” Another reason students aren't liking the chromebook very much is because of how Melina stated there are too many restriction. Many of the things that you look up on the web aren't available to the students. On a teacher's perspective it was different as the Spanish teacher Mrs. Knight said: “I like the chromebooks more first because of how simple they are for typing. Teachers enjoy Google classroom and
simple sharing things like docs. I know the kids miss some of the apps that were only on Ipads.“ For teachers it is also more practical to have chromebooks since they can also see what the students are doing and they can close out of what they are doing if the topic isn't appropriate.
