Senior year is an exciting but stressful time. These students are pushed to take senior pictures, plan graduation parties, apply for colleges, and think about what you want to do with the rest of your life. They are having all of these “lasts” thrown at them at once. This can cause many tears and a lot of stress. While doing these things Seniors also are trying to cherish these memories by remembering every big event that is going on. They start out trying to do their best on school work and go to every school event. This all shortly gets forgotten to do and they get an illness called Senioritis.
Senioritis is defined on Merriam-Webster as an ebbing of motivation and effort by school seniors as evidenced by tardiness, absences, and lower grades. This is pretty much meaning that seniors stop caring, and are ready to be done with high school. You see this start to occur rapidly second semester of their senior year. Some seniors it occurs at the beginning of the year or even end of junior year.
You can see this in the senior appearance and actions. They start to wear sweatpants a lot more often, and have more of a lazier look than they used to. Teachers can tell by the late homework they receive with less effort put into it.
The one cure for Senioritis is graduation. There are treatments that can help Senioritis however. A treatment told from Lindsey Mumaw is “fake it until you make it.” Meaning at least act like you care until the the end of the year. Another good way to help Senioritis is to take some time to relax. Stop thinking about what comes next and think about the now. Graduation will come faster than you know. Take time to take it all in. Pause whatever you may be doing to look around your school, look around at the other students and teachers. You won’t get to have all that again. It’s all over after senior year. High school is done in the blink of an eye. Senior year can be good or bad. You just need to have the best mindset to finish it how you want it.
